The Cleveland Cavaliers are on a two-game slump, and the King just won’t take that lightly.
Lebron James aired his sentiments.
“I’m not sitting up here saying its Armageddon or something like that, but we need to play better. Until we own that, we won’t get better.”
The Cavaliers were leading by 13 in the second half of their game against Detroit on Tuesday but they still bowed down to the Pistons, 104-99. To further address the issue, the team cancelled their Wednesday practice and instead had a film viewing.
The team spent 45 minutes in the film room, so basically, they were still at work even if it wasn’t at the hard court. They used that session to rebuild, regroup, and put themselves back together in preparation for their next battle.
“Coach got on us pretty well, rightfully so, which he should have,” said James.
With the recent coaching issues other teams are having, including the pink slip on Kevin McHale formerly of the Houston Rockets, James gave a vote of confidence for Cleveland Coach David Blatt.
“He’s been doing a great job. It’s just up to us to translate them and do the production.”
Currently tied with the Chicago Bulls with an 8-3 record in the Eastern Conference, James said that even if they are a hungry team to make another successful run, injuries slow them up and make it hard to compete at a high level.
“It’s quite challenging, as we are the only team that has not had out whole team play just yet. We haven’t had our All-Star point guard or our 2-guard to start the season, so it’s been challenging, but at the same time, it shouldn’t take away from the guys that are in uniform.”
To play with a sense of urgency is what Lebron is looking for from his team right now.
Kyrie Irving is on his way to recovery from a fractured kneecap injury although a huge comeback in the near future is not that clear. Injured Iman Shumpert is looking to play by early next month following a right wrist injury.
Shumpert’s target is to be able to suit up on Christmas day when they play the Golden State Warriors in a Finals rematch.
Cleveland’s next game is against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night. James was asked what he foresees in this game.
“I just want us to play consistent basketball all throughout the 48 minutes. We have to share the ball offensively, get the ball popping, defend at a high level and not turn the ball over.”
