Aside from sporting a “Paris” haircut, forward Kevin Seraphin also turned in a game-high performance as he helped the New York Knicks clinch a 95-87 victory over the Pelicans a couple of days after terrorists attacked Paris.
Along with his 12 points, his head also depicted the image of a peace sign and the Eiffel tower. He scored a dozen points in just 13 minutes of action in front of a massive-sized crowd at their home court, the Madison Square Garden.
Writing something on his shoes may have been ordinary, that is why creativity came out of him. “I wanted to do something different. It would be too late to get a tattoo so I did this (referring to his unique hairstyle).”
He had the haircut done Sunday morning, or barely two days after the Paris attack. The haircut, he said, only took about an hour.
Born in Cayene, French Guiana, Kevin was acquired by the Knicks over the summer from free agency after spending some time with the Washington Wizards. His parents still live in Paris and he owns a home in the southern part of the city.
Fellow reserve guard Langston Galloway and Seraphin delivered the goods during crunch time for New York, alongside the stellar game from Carmelo Anthony who finished the game with 29 points and 13 rebounds.
Galloway scattered 15 points, eight of which came in the decisive quarter that gave the win to the Knicks in front of their home crowd.
“He (Seraphin) gets the game ball,” said Anthony. “He deserved it. He was ready.”
“To see him and what he is dealing with emotionally and mentally, he came prepared today when his number was called.”
The Knicks began their onslaught in the pivotal fourth on a 16-7 run that gave them an 82-72 lead with 6:35 left. Galloway and Seraphin combined for 10 points in that rally.
With Paris and the safety of his family on his mind, Seraphin gave it his all when he saw action in the third period, scoring six key points to help New York overtake New Orleans, 68-65.
Knicks’ Coach Derek Fisher only had praises for his ward. “He (Seraphin) has been working hard to keep himself in shape even though he has not played major minutes. We felt he was active and energetic enough to give us that much needed lift.”
