Marshawn Lynch underwent surgery Wednesday to correct a sustained hernia injury.
This was confirmed by Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. He said, that doctors are very optimistic with Marshawn’s quick return. They foresee just around three to four weeks of recuperation for the star will be more than enough for the running back to get back into action.
An injury that requires surgery may mean months of rest, thus, there is a slim chance that he might miss the season.
Carroll remains positive that even if there really is a chance for Marshawn to miss this season, he’s still on the positive side that it won’t happen. The surgery was performed in Philadelphia, and the star will spend his days of recuperation in the East Coast until he’s fully healed.
In a span of five years, Lynch only missed one game due to injury. But this season alone, he’s missed three out of their ten games due to a series of injuries involving his hamstring, calf and neck, and the latest, his sports hernia injury.
Cornerback Richard Sherman said, he’s in touch with Lynch.
“We’ve had numerous talks, and I think he’s in good spirits. He obviously knows, playing this game for nine years or so without having surgery, so he’s kind of surprised by the way it went down. But yeah, he’s doing great.”
From 2011-2014, Lynch holds the most number of carries in the NFL with 1,181.
It was just unfortunate that Lynch suffered his sports hernia injury during a practice before their Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was able to suit up most of the game, but was feeling uneasy already towards the end of the game.
So far, Lynch has carried 111 times for 417 yards on this season. His average of 3.76 years per carry is at the 37th spot in the league.
Filling in for him in the backfield is rookie free agent Thomas Rawls. He is averaging 5.98 yards per carry, the best mark in the NFL. He has 604 yards on 101 carries.
