And the money keeps rolling in from every side.

These past few days, teams have been offering marquee players with multi-million contracts. The Red Sox did not want to be left behind, not making the headlines that is.

Boston is about to take in David Price with a seven-year contract with a hefty $217 million tag. An average of $31 million per season would be the income of Price in the duration of the contract. This is the largest amount to be offered and given to a free agent pitcher in history.

The-30-year-old Price led the American League with a 2.45 ERA in 2015 while he was still with the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays. The lefty had pitched 220.1 innings, striking out 225 while walking 47. He finished second place though in Cy Young.

His experience with AL East had him pitching for the Tampa Bay rays from 2008-2014. As he signs with the Red Sox, he will be joining Clay Buchholz, Rick Porcello, Wade Miley, and Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Blue Jays will work with Marcus Stroman, R.A Dickey, Marco Estrada, and J.A Happ. Other candidates for the final rotation of Toronto are Jesse Chavez, Drew Hutchinson, and Aaron Sanchez. The team is still in search for a pitching.

Price’s contract will also have an opt-out clause after this third season with the Red Sox.

His contract by far is the seventh-highest in baseball history, and highest at that for a pitcher, overtaking Clayton Kershaw’s $215 million deal with the Dodgers.

He posted a career-best 2.45 ERA in a combined 32 starts last season for Toronto an Detroit and racked up 18 victories for the third time in his eight seasons in Major League Baseball. He also claimed his fifth All-Star team award.

With Price already with the Red Sox, Zack Greinke is the next free agent who is bound to get hefty offers as well.
