Kevin Garnett still pulled off a career highlight even at an age where retiring is a priority option; he made his 26,000th point in the league.
It was during the Minnesota vs. Portland game when Garnett breached the 26000th mark. A quick jumper in the second half by Garnett gave the Timberwolves a 63-46 cushion over the Blazers.
A 20-year veteran in the league, Garnett started his career with the Timberwolves. He was then dealt to the Boston Celtics for seven seasons, then to the Brooklyn Nets for two, then back home to Minnesota.
This is a fitting milestone for Garnett; he made his way into the top scorer list in the NBA history with the same team where he kicked off his professional career.
Tim Duncan (26,162), Dirk Nowitzki (28,450) and Kobe Bryant (32,784) are the other active players in the league today who are also part of the top scorers list in NBA history. Also, just last month, KG also became the fifth player in the league history to play 50,000 career minutes.
His averages may not be that significant to Minnesota’s campaign, but his leadership and the words of wisdom that he shares with the young guns of the team proves to be inspiring to them. His numbers are just around 2.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Aside from Minnesota, another team is also reaping the fruits of KG’s leadership and words of wisdom. Rajon Rondo, who spent some time with Garnett in the Celtics camp shared that, he will now be sharing what he learned from Garnett with his new team, the Sacramento Kings. Rondo said, that whatever he learned from his big brother, Kevin, he will share with the team.
At this point, and at 15th overall spot in the all-time scoring leaders list of the NBA, Garnett just needs 163 more to overtake Tim Duncan for the 14th spot.
