DeMarre Carroll honored by Atlanta in ‘homecoming’

DeMarre Caroll, since leaving Atlanta in the offseason,  had a ‘homecoming’ of sorts Wednesday night when he again set foot inside the Philips Arena.

This time, though, he entered the visitors’ locker room as part of the Toronto Raptors crew.

And although he’s on the other side of the fence now, the Hawks did not forget his worthy contribution to the team’s most successful season in the league.

Atlanta’s 60-win season in 2015-16 and a run to the Eastern Conference Finals would not have been possible without Carroll’s rapid development in Atlanta.

He was greeted with a video tribute, thanking him for the time he spent with the team.

Carroll became one of the NBA’s premiere defensive wing players during his tenure with the Atlanta Hawks.

Last summer, after making the move, he inked a four-year, $60 million contract with Toronto, the biggest in franchise history.

The 29-year-old’s averages before battling Atlanta for the first time were 13.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on a 40 percent shooting in his first 15 games with the Raptors.
