After another violation of the National Football League’s performance-enhancing drug policy last March, LaRon Landry is still without an NFL team.
Teams appear to be elusive of Landry after the indefinite ban given to him by the league. The veteran safety had a hard time finding work before the verdict was given. Now, he will have to explore more opportunities, maybe in leagues other than the NFL.
The latest infraction is not the first time he violated the PED policy. In September of 2014, he was also forced to miss four games as a sanction due to the same infraction.
Last February 11, 2015, he was released by the Colts. His second suspension came on March 6, 2015, that lasted for the first ten games of the 2015 season.
Landry, who played for the Louisiana State University college football team was rated as the 18th best free-agent safety prior to the 2015 season. He made the Pro Bowl in 2012.
The 31-year-old safety has a bright future ahead of him, but due to the recurring infractions, teams will be wary of getting his services due to the possible risks they will be taking in if they hire him.
A third offense of the same violation ni the NFL will ban him from the league for two years, but these suspensions are indefinite. The player involved can apply for reinstatement after the specified period. There might also be a cleansing period for it.
His first professional team is the Washington Redskins from 2007-2011. He transferred to the New York Jets in 2012, then jumped to the Indianapolis Colts in 2013 until 2014. He was the 6th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft.
He has a younger brother, Dawan, who is also a safety free agent. The younger Landry was drafted by the Baltimor Ravens in the 2006 NFL Draft.
